Friends Of Residential Treasures: LA is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to energizing, educating, and connecting Angelenos through the dynamic stories of our homes, neighborhoods, and architecture.
Our organization has developed five interlocking programs in pursuit of our mission: Monthly self-guided maps explore the architecture of Los Angeles through richly researched, themed routes curated by leading historians, writers, architects, scholars, and more—each one a narrative adventure through the city’s built landscape (FORT Trails); grants to support original research and creative projects that uncover hidden stories, illuminate overlooked figures, and contribute lasting knowledge to the evolving history of Los Angeles residential design (FORT Fellowship); a series of artist-led collaborations translate the experience of residential architecture into new forms—from films and poems to cocktails and short stories—offering fresh, imaginative ways to engage with how we live (FORT Frames); live and virtual events bring people together through panels and conversations that celebrate architecture’s power to connect communities and spark dialogue (FORT Gatherings); and standalone projects spotlighting Los Angeles’s architectural imagination through bold experiments, special initiatives, and global showcases that extend FORT’s mission in surprising directions including our participation in the U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale (FORT Gems).
We have been covered by the New York Times, LA Times, KCRW, KCAL, NBC LA, Spectrum News, NPR, Los Angeles Magazine, Time Out Los Angeles, American Way, and other outlets. We have partnered on events with the Los Angeles Public Library, California Humanities, the Hollyhock House, the City of West Hollywood, the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Gamble House, Village Green, Studio 111, Pasadena Heritage, the Pasadena Museum of History, soho.home.studio, the Barnsdall Art Park, the Neutra Institute for Survival Through Design, the Society of Architectural Historians, the Wolford House and more.
